Laryea Kingston has been fined a staggering £60 000 in a month’s earnings by Scottish side Hearts in a move likely to further strain relations between himself and the club.
Kingston’s relationship with Hearts has been on the rocks following his decision to feature in two international games for Ghana at a time when Hearts said he was not fit.
But the club insists the ban is unrelated to the disagreement over his international commitment.
Instead they claim the fine is for ‘unacceptable conduct’ after their game against St Johnston on August 30 without stating what exactly the player had done.
Kingston has had a furious exchange of words with his club manager Laszlo Csaba over his international commitment, insisting he was perfectly within his rights to feature for Ghana once he was fit.
Given that the player’s rights to participate in the World Cup qualifier against Sudan and the friendly against Japan were protected by FIFA, the club cannot fine him for that.
