Ghana striker Kwesi Appiah has been ruled out of action for up to nine months after suffering a cruciate ligament injury.
The striker picked the cruciate ligament injury in training with the Black Stars in Accra.
The injury has ruled him out of the 2017 AFCON qualifiers against Mauritius and as well as the start of the European season
Appiah has flown back to the United Kingdom where he is expected to undergo surgery.
Appiah was an integral member of the Black Stars that won silver at the African Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea earlier this year scoring a goal.
Appiah will be the second Black Stars player in recent months to be ruled out for a lengthy time after utility man Kwadwo Asamoah underwent surgery to fix a cartilage problem in his left knee.
Appiah made his debut for Ghana in January 2015 and has gone on to earn four more caps for Ghana since his debut.
