SIC Life, Ghana's leading Life Insurance Company is sponsoring this year’s Ghana Tennis Club junior tournament.
The tournament which is slated for August 10 to 12, 2015 at the Accra Tennis Club is dubbed: All play All for under 14 to 18 years.
Managing Director of SIC Life, Aaron Issa Anafure said the decision to sponsor the tournament is in line with the company’s corporate social responsibility principles which hinders on sports.
According to him, the sponsorship is aimed at increasing participation among children and enhance interest in tennis.
Mr. Anafure added that the company finds it appropriate to support the lesser known sports which have the potential to put Ghana on the world map.
Impressed by the levels of participation and dedication of the participants, the SIC Life MD said they will sponsor the tournament every year to enable the club train and develop school children to be world class sportsmen in future.
Aaron Issa Anafure said they hope to extend their support to the senior tournaments to heighten interest of tennis in the country.
Also, Captain for the Ghana Tennis Club, Claudius Sonekan expressed their profound gratitude to SIC Life for the gesture.
He indicated that the sponsorship will keep the children whom hitherto were engaging on all manner of social vices busy.
“We have hit the ground running with its talent hunt program to unearth more talents for upcoming zonal, regional and international future assignments” he stated.
The Captain said the future prospect of tennis in the country is bright due to the enthusiasm of the participants.
Claudius Sonekan urged other corporate bodies to emulate the example of SIC Life and support the sports.
For his part, Head of Marketing at SIC Life, Albert Bahun-Wilson said the worrying trend of lack of competition on the local tennis calendar will be a thing of the past as the junior tournament will now hunt for new talents for the discipline.
He reiterated their readiness to partner the Ghana Tennis Club to develop tennis at the grassroots level.
Mr. Bahun-Wilson said winners will get cash prizes, branded books and souvenirs from SIC Life and many others.
