The Power Ministry has blamed the worsening energy situation on the shutdown of Ghana National Gas Company Ltd.
According to a statement signed by the head of Public Affairs at the Ministry, Kweku Sersah-Johnson, the shutdown was necessary for the installation of the African Middle East Investment Power plant which will generate additional 250 MW of power.
For four years, the country has been battling periodic darkness. The situation has collapsed many businesses and industries.
For the past three days the situation has worsened in some parts of the country.
The ministry hopes to finish work on the installation in order ameliorate the impact of the power crisis.
Below is a full statement from the Power Ministry about situation.
The current increase in the quantum of load shedding in the country has come about as a result of a shutdown of Ghana National Gas Company Ltd (Ghana gas) at Atuabo to enable the African Middle East Investment (AMERI) Power plant to be connected onto the gas supply system of Ghana Gas.
The AMERI Plant at Aboadze currently being installed is expected to generate additional 250 MW into the National Interconnected Transmission System (NITS) when fully commissioned.
Engineers of both the Ghana National Gas Company Ltd (Ghana Gas) and AMERI are working round clock to complete the connection of the gas line and to ameliorate the recent further decline in power supply in the country.
The public is kindly requested to bear with the situation as the gas line connection is expected to be completed soon.
