A Wa Magistrate court has remanded a Police Constable, Felix Osei Bonsu for allegedly assaulting and defiling a 16-year old pupil at Mangu, a suburb of Upper West Regional capital, Wa.
According to Deputy Upper West Regional Police Commander, ACP Shayibu Gariba, the victim who is a Primary Five pupil and a male friend were on their way to attend to nature’s call when they encountered the Constable.
But when Felix Bonsu asked about where they were heading, the male friend, out of fear took to his heels and left the victim with the Constable.
“Our constable is alleged to have assaulted the girl. The girl tried to run into a school nearby and our Constable pursued the girl to that point,” ASP Gariba told Joy News' Rafiq Salam.
“Upon reaching there, our Constable is said to have demanded sex from the girl because he thought that the boy was going to have sex with her,” he added.
A security man and some other people who were around the school at the time tried to prevent the the policeman from having his way with the victim.
“So at the end of the day, it is alleged that our constable had sex with the female pupil,” ASP Gariba said.
He said investigations have been conducted and a medical report from the Wa government hospital proves that indeed the victim was assaulted and there was some form of carnal knowledge.
He said the Constable, if found guilty will not be spared, adding, “we will treat it like any citizen who has gone against the law.”
“We have no cover for anybody, although it is an allegation, the case is still under investigation and the court will determine the way forward.”
