Plans by the Management of the Tamale Teaching hospital to privatize the facility's laboratory have been suspended following agitation by staff.
The regional hospital took the decision to halt the privatization at a crunch meeting with staff Tuesday, Myjoyonline.com has learned.
Head of the Pathology Unit at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, Dr. Bani Banison, disclosed that management is committed to resolving the concerns of the angry workers.
The hospital is expected to release an official statement on its latest decision Wednesday.
Some staff and patients of the Tamale Teaching Hospital in the Northern Region last week opposed moves to privatize the laboratory services of the hospital.
They say if the hospital is allowed to outsource its laboratory services, it will make access to healthcare in the region very expensive.
Already healthcare services in the Upper East, Upper West, and the Northern regions are difficult to access, one patient disclosed adding the privatization will worsen the situation.
