President of the Pan-African Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Seth Agyei-Baah has called on accountants to adhere to the ethics of the profession.
He says their role is crucial in keeping businesses afloat in the wake of the current economic constraints.
Speaking to JOY BUSINESS at the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Grande Ball where he was the keynote speaker, Dr. Agyei-Baah said most businesses have failed because some accountants have compromised on issues of governance and ethics.
“If they are not ethical everything will break down," he told JOY BUSINESS’ Daryl Kwawu
A total of 217 new members were inducted at the Ball held under the theme, “Accounting for the future – role of ethics and governance”.
President of the Network Panel of the ACCA, Dr. Henry Djangmah told JOY BUSINESS the institution is poised to maintain the professional standards of the accountants it trains.
“It’s the only way they can become relevant on the global market”, he said.
Some senior fellows received recognition at the ceremony which hosted ACCA members, executives as well as past and present presidents of the institution.
Founded in 1904, the ACCA is the global professional accounting body offering the Chartered Certified Accountant qualification.
