President John Agyekum Kufuor on Monday, June 4, met with the newly elected French President, Nicolas Sarkozy in Paris.
The French President expressed the will to meet President Kufuor, who is also President of the Africa Union two days before the G8 Summit in Heiligendamm (Germany), which would focus among other topics on aid to Africa.
The G8 Summit, Darfur crisis, Ivory Coast, Africa Union’s future were the main issues of the meeting.
Preceding this Head of State’s bilateral talks, Bernard Kouchner, French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Co-operation and NEPAD, also held a meeting at the Quai d’Orsay.
“Ghana is a model for democracy, good governance and economic development” said the French President and that’s why he expressed his attachment to meet his Ghanaian counterpart, according to a statement by the French Embassy.
The French Presidential Spokesman, David Martinon mentioned Ghana’s contribution to peacekeeping and the fact that Ghana entered the “Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie” as an associate member in 2006.
