Ofori Quaye Annan, a driver, who admitted causing unlawful damage to a structure and throwing away the soup of Madam Mary Azanu, a trader, was fined GHC60 by the Adjabeng Magistrate’s Court Two on Tuesday. In default, Annan would be jailed in harbour for two months. The court, presided over by Mrs Faustina Mary Addington, ordered Quaye to pay GHC100 to the victim for the structure and the soup. He is also to pay GHC20 as compensation to Madam Azanu or face a three month imprisonment in hard labour. Prosecuting, Police Inspector Worae Douglas, said Mary occupies a parcel of land sold to her by the late father of Quaye. The accused who share a common border with Mary persistently claimed that the land belonged to him and that the lady should vacate it, the prosecution said. It said even though the woman had explained the circumstances leading to the occupancy, the accused would not accept and so on October Five, this year, the accused encroached on the land and plucked a coconut, the prosecution said. When Quaye was confronted by Madam Azanu, he became offended and destroyed Madam Azanu's kitchen and bathroom, constructed with eight pieces of roofing sheets, valued at GHC80 and some soup worth GHC20.
