Biblical Discipleship and Growth Ministry (BDGM), a Ho-based quasi-church organization, has within the past three years constructed 12 rainwater harvesting tanks and seven open pavilion classrooms for 12 communities in the North-Tongu and Adaklu-Anyigbe Districts.
The BDGM project is to reduce the stress women and children go through, walking long distances in search of water for household chores, especially during the dry season.
The communities are: Mafi-Srekpe, Mafi-Gidikpuie, Mafi-Aformanorkofe, Mafi Meyikpor, Vume-Klokorfe and Mafi-Fiekpe.
The rest are Mafi-Wukpo, Mafi-Kpordiwlor, Adaklu-Ablornu, Adaklu-Kpeleho, Adaklu-Ahorkorfe and Adakpo.
Each tank holds 14,000 gallons of water.
Apostle Senyo Mawufemor Cudjoe, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of BDGM, told the GNA in Ho that the project which had support from the Pantano Christian Church, USA, was also to reduce cases of water-borne diseases in the two districts.
“Water is life, so as we go to preach the word of God, we associate with the challenges of the people and help to resolve those challenges,” Apostle Cudjoe said.
He said about GHC150,000 had so far been spent on the project, including mobile clinics.
Apostle Cudjoe said his group also donated drugs for the treatment of the treatment of some communicable diseases, including water borne diseases in the area.
He said his outfit would soon provide potable water to the northern parts of the Volta Region as its contribution to meeting the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) related to health.
Apostle Cudjoe appealed to municipal and district assemblies to support their efforts to improve the standard of living of the folks in the districts.
