The Government has denied reports it is in the final stages of kicking off the STX housing project it has signed with STX Korea Group to deal with the housing deficit affecting the nation.
The government of Ghana - STX Korea housing deal is expected to provide some 200,000 housing out of which 30,000 will be allocated to the security agencies.
The Daily Graphic on its Monday October 18, 2010 edition reported that an STX vessel Korean Roro STX Chan-Xing Rose that brought in equipment such as forklifts, bulldozers and 4x4 vehicles among others arrived on October 14, 2010 and left the shores of Ghana on the 16th of same month.
Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Dr. Hannah Louisa Bissiw tells Asempa FM, the equipment belongs to another company which is using the vessel of the STX shipping firm to execute its private business.
Dr. Bissew said the over 400 vehicles belonged to Japan and Rana Motors and other companies that had contracted STX Shipping for its imports.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s late afternoon current affairs programme “Ekosii Sen” she confirmed, a reporter from Graphic called her concerning the same issue early on during which she denied any knowledge of such equipment belonging to the Korean construction firm.
Dr. Bissew said the office of the Attorney General had not cleared the STX housing project to take-off as the ministry was yet to receive official correspondence from the A-G’s department on the state of the STX housing project.
The official signing ceremony to outdoor the project on September 20 this year was truncated as a result of some legal issues that had to be resolved.
