Some of the workers of PSC Tema Shipyard are pushing for an audit of the company’s operations before the new owners take over.
The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, (GHAPOHA) is expected to take over the facility from July this year according to the Transport Minister, Fifi Kwetey.
This is after government directed for the authority to manage the shipyard after reviewing proposals other firms. The workers are currently divided over whether the facility should be managed by (GHAPOHA) alone or a consortium.
Some Senior Staff also believe the current management should be held accountable for their financial decisions.
"We sent a petition to the presidency and there are numerous allegations in it for someone to go and say somewhere that what we said is not true or are false. That is why we are calling the Attorney General through the Transport Ministry to send independent auditors to come to the yard and investigate the administration of Mr Ali," said David Doomson, the Acting Secretary of Senior Staff Association.
Meanwhile, JOY BUSINESS is learning that the current heads of department at the PSC Tema Shipyard and Dry Dock Company have been asked by GHPA to prepare their handing over notes. This, sources say is expected to fast track the takeover of the yard.
