The National Executive Committee of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has discounted claims by the General Secretary of the Union that comments by the NUGS President on the just-ended UTAG strike were not endorsed by the student body.Mr Patrick Adonoo had claimed that the NUGS president, Mr Anthony Afriyie Abotsi's comments on the strike were not representative of the views of Ghanaian students.He accused Mr Abotsi of pursuing an agenda but the presidents of the blocs that constitute the National Executive Committee of NUGS disagree with his views.They say everything Mr Abotsi said or did in relation to the strike were fully endorsed by the general student body of Ghana.This was contained in a statment issued in Accra which is published below.PRESS RELEASE
(REJOINDER: MR. PATRICK ADONOO)It has come to the notice of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) that Mr. Patrick Adonoo the General Secretary of our Union claims that the Press Releases and pronouncements of Mr. Anthony Abotsi Afriyie (NUGS President) in relation to the UTAG Strike are not representative of the views of NUGS but originate from his singular thoughts.We wish to state unequivocally that every pronouncement (Press Conference, Press Releases and Interviews) of the NUGS President so far are decisions reached at National Executive Committee (NEC) Meetings both of which Mr. Patrick Adonoo was present.Notice is hereby served the media and the public that Article 40 Clause (a) confers on the President only all duties of spokesmanship to the extent that no other officer can engage the media in the name of the Union unless so directed by the President.Thank you.SIGNED.
