The Chairman of the NPP Disciplinary Committee has testified against Paul Afoko insisting that the decision to suspend him as National Chairman was right.
Most Rev. Samuel Asante-Antwi said the committee followed due process in recommending the suspension of Paul Afoko last October after he was accused of working against the party’s interest of winning the 2016 elections.
Challenging his suspension in court for at least 8 months, counsel for Paul Afoko questioned the constitution of the Disciplinary Committee.
His counsel has been arguing that the process of appointing Tarkwa-Nsuaem MP Gifty Kusi to the Disciplinary Committee was flawed.
Afoko’s lawyers point out that according to the NPP constitution, only the National Council appoints members of the Disciplinary Committee.
According to his counsel, Gifty Kusi was appointed to the committee by the party’s parliamentary caucus and therefore her membership makes the committee improperly constituted.
DC Chairman, Most. Rev. Samuel Asante-Antwi, admitted in court that there was no letter from the NPP National Council appointing a new member, Gifty Kusi.

But defending the Disciplinary Committee’s decisions, he explained the party’s parliamentary caucus is represented on the committee.
They, therefore, only wrote to replace its member, William Boafo who was not regular at meetings, he noted.
Joined to the suit are the NPP and its Acting Chairman, Mr Freddie Blay.
Some of the notable faces in court today were the plaintiff, Mr Paul Afoko, Professor Mike Oquaye, a former Minister of Communications; Mr CK Tedem, chairman of the party's council of Elders and former chief of staff Kwadwo Mpiani.
