Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has urged Ghanaians to ensure they take part in this year’s general election.

He said electing people to manage a nation’s affairs is a serious business which Ghanaians do not have to toy with.

“If you have the power to send some people to go and manage your affairs and better your lots don’t play with it,” he said.

The former leader of Ghana disclosed this to Joynews on the sidelines of a public lecture organised by the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research on Monday, June 27.

He revealed Ghana’s ability to achieve the United Nations development targets under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) will depend on a strong and determined leadership.

Making a wake call on Ghanaians, Kufuor said it is important for the citizens to see “governance as an opportunity to improve upon themselves.”

“In a democratic system voting is an evidence of your sovereignty as an individual but if you have the power to send people to go and manage your affairs make use of it,” he said, adding, “We must learn the positive uses of our power.”
