The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has charged the police to arrest and prosecute anyone who will try to disrupt the impending elections.
He recounted with concern how some hoodlums often created troubles during the day of elections in the past, which posed a threat to peace in the country.
Otumfuo urged the police to be combat ready and swiftly deal effectively with any troublemaker so that the election would be peaceful.
He gave this charge when he hosted the Inspector General of Police (IGP) John Kudalor, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Monday.
The Asante King stressed that a lot was expected from the police if the elections would be peaceful, and tasked the police to be proactive.
He also advised them to be neutral, fair and firm in the discharge of their duties so that they would win public confidence and support.
According to Otumfuo, without public support and trust, the police would struggle to maintain law and order in the country.
Mr John Kudalor assured the Asantehene that the police would be neutral in the discharge of their duties to make the polls peaceful.
He said the necessary equipment that they would need to help make the elections peaceful would be provided by the Police Administration.
The IGP appealed to the Asante Monarch and chiefs in Asanteman to contribute their quota towards the all-important political exercise.
Mr. Kudalor, who is on a working tour of the Ashanti Region, was accompanied to the Manhyia Palace by COP Kofi Boakye, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander.
