Minority leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has been told to ‘mind his own business’ after he questioned why a substantive minister has not been appointed to steer affairs of the Power ministry.
Former Power Minister, Kwabena Donkor resigned last year after a dramatic climax to a turbulent 11-month tenure in which he attempted to solve a four-year power crisis which has plagued the country.
His ministry had, just a day before his resignation, issued a statement announcing an end to the load shedding exercise which crippled several companies and left many jobless.
But a counter statement from the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) 24 hours later denied that the load shedding had ended and prayed for more time to conclusively solve the problem.
Since his resignation, there has been no minister to head the ministry. His deputy John Jinapor stood in his stead for a while but last month government announced that Finance Minister, Seth Terkper will act as the power minister.
This is a cause of concern for the Minority Leader who sought clarification on the steps being taken to appoint a new minister.
The Minority Leader who is also MP for Suame made the comment when the Speaker Edward Doe Adjaho announced the nomination of Emmanuel Bombande as Deputy Foreign Minister and John Oti Bless as deputy Local Government Minister.

He said “let me take this occasion to remind the president that these are deputy ministerial nominations he is offering to us for consideration. There is a key matter which is still outstanding after the sudden transition that affected our own colleague Dr Kwabena Donkor.
“And because of the affliction this nation is facing, wouldn’t it be prudent to have a substantive minister for power? Maybe we may remind him that it is still outstanding,” he added.
However when called on by the Speaker to respond to the Minority leaders question, Deputy Majority Leader, Alfred Agbesie in his response said “I think that he has raised a good point but what I want to tell him is that there is a popular saying that ‘di wu fie asem’ [mind your own business].
The speaker retorted with a subtle threat to rule the two gentlemen out of order.
