The New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s quest to win the general elections later this year has taken the party to the palace of Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to secure his blessings ahead of the crucial polls.
A delegation of NPP bigwigs led by former President John Agyekum Kufuor stormed the Manhyia Palace Thursday to formally introduce the party’s Presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to the Ashanti King.

Addressing Manhyia Elders and party supporters who have gathered at the Palace, the former President acknowledged the importance of Otumfuo Osei II in the country’s political affairs, emphasising that without his blessings no Presidential candidate can win elections.

The visit to Manhyia forms part of Nana Akufo-Addo's five-day campaign tour of the Ashanti Region.
Ex-President Kufuor said he has confident Nana Akufo-Addo will make a good President for Ghana because he was his right-hand man during his administration.

Addressing the gathering, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II said NPP was formed with significant input from the Ashanti Region and urged the party to unite and rally behind the flag bearer.
Nana Akufo-Addo also promised to tackle challenges in the mining and agroforestry sectors.
He also promised to solve infrastructural challenges the Region is facing.
