Police in the Volta Region say there are 114 flashpoints in the region that would be a focus of their attention ahead of this year’s elections.
This was disclosed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Vincent Redeemer Dedjoe, during a durbar in Ho, the regional capital, as part of Inspector General of Police (IGP) John Kudalor’s tour of the region to assess the readiness of the police ahead of the December 7 elections.
ACP Dedjoe promised that his men will ensure a smooth elections process in at the violence-prone areas.
“Those [places] that we call flashpoints are our own creations. It is because we have refused sometimes to allow the processes involved in elections to take their own course,” he said.
He said he was hopeful political parties would also play a key role in ensuring that elections at these flashpoints go on successfully.
The IGP reiterated calls for police personnel across the country to exhibit professionalism during, before and after the December 7 polls.
John Kudalor said the last people to foment trouble in the lead-up to the general election will be police personnel, hence the call for them to be impartial in their treatment of Ghanaians in the run-up to the elections.
“One thing is very clear that it [election] is going to be keenly contested by all the various political parties and we are fully aware that the overall success of the election is large part contingent on peace and security which falls on the police,” he said at the durbar.
He said he is “bemused, enthused and flabbergasted by the passion and dedication” shown by the police in the Volta Region,
