The first ever beach sports games for media personnel dubbed ‘Ghana Media Beach Sports Classic’ is scheduled for June 29 – July 1.
The event to be organised by the Ghana Beach Sports Association (GBSA) will come off at the La Pleasure Beach Resort in Accra.
Mr Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, a member of GBSA said at the launch of the event on Thursday that the beach sports is a version of the popular annual media games and would feature events such as beach soccer, beach volley and tug-of-war.
He said the rational behind the games was to sensitize members of the media, create awareness as well as project the objectives of beach sports in the country.
Mr Ankrah said that GBSA is not all about sports but also aims at creating practices geared towards keeping the environment clean, especially along the beaches and shores of the coastal belt.
Mr Rashid Bio Nai, Manager of the La Beach Resort gave the assurance that his outfit is ready to host the event as their contribution towards the development and growth of beach sports.
He urged Ghanaians to embrace beach sports and support it like other sporting events. He said: “We can assure all that the first ever media beach games will be a successful event.”
He said the La Beach Resort has made the needed arrangements in relation to security and safety and other areas in their quest to host a successful event.
Mr Charles Aryeh, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Sports Council (NSC) who chaired the launch pledged the Council’s support for beach soccer and called on corporate organizations to support the programmes of the Association.
The games will be the second event to be organised by GBSA after its inauguration early last year. The organisers have said that registration is free and open to all media houses both print and electronic.
Interested media houses can register at the NSC office at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium from Monday, June 18.
