Lawyer for three pro-government communicators jailed for contempt is confident that the President could set his clients free "very very soon"
Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe told Joy News Wednesday that he hopes the President will do "something very very positive immediately"
The lawyer is part of a group asking for presidential pardon for Godwin Ako Gunn, Alistair Nelson and Maase Salifu who were jailed last week Wednesday after the Supreme Court handed down a four-month sentence for criminal contempt.
But a week into their incarceration at the Nsawam Medium Security prison in the Eastern region, legal practitioner Edudzi Tamakloe told Joy News that he has information suggesting that the president may accede to their request very soon.
This follows the presentation of a signed petition by the three contemnors to the president on Monday through their lawyers.
More than 48 hours after the Chief of Staff received the petition, the lawyer said he has no doubt that President Mahama will exercise his powers under Article 72 of the 1992 constitution and pardon the pro-government communicators.
"We would not have taken the initiative on behalf of our client if we have cause to doubt that possibility" he maintained.
He said the petitioners are waiting for a good outcome after the President is done consulting the Council of State
