Traditional authorities at Old Tafo in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region have dismissed suggestions that weapons are kept in the palace.

Angry youth of the community marched to the palace demanding guns to defend themselves against members of the Zongo community they claimed had assaulted their colleague.

The demand for the weapons raised suspicions that the palace authorities could be keeping weapons there.

But Tafohene’s Secretary, Kenneth Apaah-Amoah, told Luv FM any such suspicion is unfounded.

He said the youth acted out of rage and that could have created an erroneous impression that the palace was keeping arms.

He stated that “when there is anger, people can do a lot of things”.  

“We cannot take the law into our own hands” by supplying guns to the youth for retaliation, he expressed.

We all won’t survive using weapons, “after all guns cannot solve our problems”, he added.

Old Tafo has for some time now become a destination of violence after clashes between Muslim youth and loyalists of the Old Tafo Council in February led to the death of one person and the destruction of properties

The alleged attack is linked to the February 10, 2016 incident in which Moslem youth clashed with loyalists of the Tafo traditional council over disagreements on a piece of land at the Tafo cemetery.

There is rising tension in the area over the same matter with fears of reprisals.
