The newly selected vice presidential candidate of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) says although she does not have any political experience, she is bent on making a difference.

Brigitte Dzogbenuku was unveiled on Thursday as the PPP’s vice presidential candidate by the party’s founder and presidential candidate, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom.

Since the announcement, many have wondered whether she can make any significant impact on the PPP's political fortunes in this year's elections and that of Dr Nduom who is making a third bid for the presidency.

However speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, the vice presidential candidate said her lacking political experience will in no way hinder her desire to make a difference.

She said she is not concerned by the fact that she is inexperienced politically and that “that is what PPP wants and that is the kind of person Ghanaians can identify with.”

Since not everyone who has ever served in government went in as a politician, Dzogbenuku believes she can, like the others, make a difference with or without a political background.

“They have come into it and they have learnt the ropes, they’ve been in the rough and tumble and they’ve been able to make a difference even with that,” she stressed.

She believes that people want someone who is ordinary, one who “is out there, who they can identify with and say ‘I can be like her and I can make a difference in my own small way’ so that [not being a politician] doesn’t worry me.”

She says she is inspired by the current challenges in the country and is no longer willing to watch from the sidelines and complain only on social media each day. She wants to be actively involved in bringing about change.

“You can be the change in your little way – which I have done - but when you need a mass of people to think along the line of change and things to be done properly then maybe you must come out and stand out and let people listen to you.”

“I am a Ghanaian and at the end of the day I feel the pinch like anyone else. I am not worried or afraid to say I am not and I was not a politician. Anybody is welcome into the PPP to make a difference”.

This, for her is just a bigger platform to reach out to a wider circle of people.

“The point is I am here to make a difference. Dr Nduom is a business man but has become a politician because he wants to make a difference”.

The former Miss Ghana also said she wants to be known for something else desides being a former beauty queen.

There is nothing wrong with being a beauty queen but when you did that more than 25 years ago, you’ve got to be known for something else, she said.

She added that there is a lot more she has been aside Miss Ghana, there is a lot more she can do with this new appointment and she is ready to walk the talk.

Prior to her appointment, Brigitte worked as the Executive Director of Mentoring Women Ghana, a company she launched after participating in Vital Voices’ Fortune organised by the US State Department in 2008.

She also owns an oil palm processing company in the Volta region and has been involved in several projects to champion the cause of women.

She also won the Miss Ghana beauty pageant in 1990.
