Companies that have been shortlisted to bid for the contract to electronically transmit election results have begun a demonstration exercise to show how they will carry-out the duty on Election Day.
The three day exercise will see all the companies make presentations to the tender committee of the commission with political parties and civil society groups in attendance.
The commission’s decision to electronically transmit results from the coalition centers generated some controversy when the New Patriotic Party raised questions about its legality.
Peter Mac Manu, Campaign Manager for the New Patriotic Party flagbearer said the EC did not consult the parties before taking the decision, a position the EC vehemently disagreed.
In a statement the EC said the decision to electronically transmit results was taken at an IPAC meeting with the NPP's suspended General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong in attendance.
The protest notwithstanding the EC believes the electronic transmission will in no small way help in the election results declaration.
The EC insisted that the electronic transmission was part of proposals made by the Election Reform Committee constituted after the election petition in 2013.
Three companies are said to have been shortlisted for the tender process with the tender committee looking to select one of them.
Confirming the selection exercise to Joy News the deputy head of communications at the EC Yusif Ayuba said the tender committee made up of other external persons will take a decision after the three day exercise.
"We will go through all the processes, we will do the evaluation and the best company will be selected," he said.
