The Confederation of African Football Media Director Mr. Suleman Abuba says the African footballer of the year award is solely based on votes cast by the national team coaches of the 53 African football associations.According to Mr. Abuba, CAF is not in any position to manipulate results of votes cast to favour a particular player for the award, since they respect the decision of the coaches who understand the game and are experts on the field of play.Speaking on Asempa FM’s Sports Morning Show, Mr. Abuba stated, he feels the frustrations of those who expected Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan to win the award but it was the choice of the coaches who voted and their decision is paramount. He said in every competition there is a winner and a loser and congratulated the award winners and wished those who couldn’t win, the best of luck next time.Speaking on the presidential award which was given to Mr. Kwasi Nyantakyi, Mr. Abuba stated that the award was given to presidents of the associations who have contributed to the development of football in their countries. The South African federation was given an award for hosting a successful World Cup in the history of Africa and Ghana was not left out after CAF recognized the country's tremendous performance at the world cup as Ghana was the only African country to have made it to the knockout stages.Story by Benedict Owusu/Asempa sports/Ghana
