The Police have arrested five persons in connection with the robbery and murder of a 35-year old businessman, Joseph Owusu Ansah, at Sefwi-Bibiani last Thursday.
They are Kojo Mensah, alias O.P, a driver from Sefwi Afram near Sefwi Tanoso; Stephen Kwaku Antwi, alias Bayerebon, 34; Kwabena Asante, alias Major, 31; Kofi Tenakwa, 28 and Yakubu Ousman, 37.
Giving details of the arrest to newsmen yesterday, the Western Regional Police Commander, DCOP Alhaji Hamidu Mahama, said on Saturday, December 18, the command dispatched a team to Sefwi Bibiani and succeeded in arresting the five suspects.
"These suspects, we believe, were those who committed the crime. We got to their base and managed to arrest them together with the driver, Kojo Mensah and the vehicle they used in committing the crime," he said.
DCOP Mahama commended the people of Sefwi Bibiani who gave the police the vital and credible information which led to the arrest of the suspects and appealed to the public to give timely information so that criminals could be swiftly arrested anytime a crime was committed.
The suspects are at the moment in police custody, as investigations continue.
On December 16, Mr Ansah was stabbed to death by armed robbers who attacked him and his family.
The six masked men, wielding locally manufactured pistols and cutlasses, stormed the house of Mr Ansah at about 1.30 am and ordered him and his wife, Rose Bediako, who is nursing a six-month old baby, to surrender all their monies.
Unable to meet their demands because they did not have money on them, the robbers stabbed Mr Ansah who died on arrival at the Bibiani Government Hospital.
DCOP Mahama said the police would continue to intensify mobile patrols in the Sefwi area, particularly from Nkwanta to Half-Assini and Enchi.
