A Kia truck ran over a 19-year-old man at Awoshie, a suburb of Accra, killing him instantly, when he attempted to stop the moving truck from running into other vehicles.
The deceased, whose name was given only as Karikari, according to eyewitnesses, jumped from the truck which was carrying bricks and placed one of the bricks under its tyres in an attempt to stop it but unfortunately the truck ran over both the brick and the man.
Narrating the incident to the Daily Graphic in Accra, an eye witness, Mr James Agalga, said the truck, which is owned by a real estate development company was scheduled to deliver bricks to its clients at an agreed place and time.
To that end the manager of the company, Mr Ken Bature, decided to deliver the consignment himself since the regular truck driver was unavailable.
While on his way the brakes failed, compelling Karikari, who was then on the passenger's seat to jump off the truck to place one of the bricks under the tyres in an attempt to stop it but he rather got killed when the vehicle ran over him.
The eyewitness said Mr Bature, who was still behind the steering wheel, managed to prevent a more serious disaster when he managed to control the steering wheel to hit a metal barricade on the side of the road which stopped the truck.
The incident was reported to the Odorkor Police, after which Mr Bature was detained to assist the police in their investigations.
He was later bailed by Mr Agalga, who is also a lawyer.
Investigations are ongoing.
