The Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service is investigating the murder of a police officer on the Dodowa-Agomeda road in Accra.Chief Inspector Johannes Koku Ahanogbe, was allegedly ambushed and killed by suspected Fulani men.The late Ahanogbe is said to have fought his attackers and managed to overpower one who died in the struggle but he also got killed. The Officer-In-Charge of Traffic and Dispatch Riding at the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police, ASP Bismarck Adei, who confirmed the incident to Joy News, said Chief Inspector Ahanogbe sought permission to visit a friend at Abuansi near Agomeda in the Dodowa District of Accra. He said word came the next day that the body of the police officer together with another man had been found on the road to Agomeda.ASP Adei said when he arrived at the scene, crime scene investigations revealed the other body was that of a Fulani herdsman, who was suspected to be one of Chief Inspector Ahanogbe’s attackers.According to him, some residents of the village identified the suspect as a resident of a nearby village. He said the area was known for persistent attacks by Fulani herdsmen who constantly terrorized the people. The situation is so dangerous, he stressed, that residents stop using the road after 6:30 p.m.Chief Inspector Ahanogbe died of gunshot wounds while his suspected attacker died of knife wounds.ASP Adei denied reports the deceased was shot during a hunting expedition. The incident, he noted, occurred on the main highway and wondered how the late police officer could have been hunting on a highway. The police were yet to make any arrests.Story by Malik Abass Daabu/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
