The Western Naval Command on Thursday arrested 46 fishermen, including four Japanese, for allegedly using aggravated lighting for fishing in the prohibited areas in the Jubilee Field.
Four boats and four canoes and 15 electricity generators that the fishermen were using have been seized.
Speaking to the press after the operation at Sekondi, Commodore Tim Appiah, Flag Officer Commanding the Western Naval Command, said the case would be handed over to the Fisheries Commission because the Navy only had the mandate to enforce the Fisheries Law.
"The Navy would continue to enforce the Fisheries Law without fear or favour to protect assets at the Jubilee Field and to ensure that the provisions of the law are complied with".
Commodore Appiah advised fishermen to desist from poaching, undertaking bamboo fishing and using explosives and obnoxious chemicals for fishing.
