Yaw Sintim, a 70-year-old labourer, who allegedly defiled a 10-year-old girl, was on Friday arraigned before the Asamankese Circuit Court.
The plea of Sintim was not taken and he was remanded in prison custody until January 31.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Kate Ogyiri, told the court that the accused was employed by the grandmother of the victim to split firewood for her.
She said on January 05 at about 1700 hours, Sintim was performing his usual wood splitting in the complainant's house.
Upon realizing that the house was deserted with the girl home alone then lured her to the back of the kitchen where he forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.
The prosecutor said as Sintim was enjoying himself, an occupant of the house saw him in the act and rescued the girl from further abuse.
The witness reported the incident to the complainant who had the accused arrested and sent to the police station where a complaint was made.
The police issued medical form to the complainant to send the girl to hospital for treatment.Source: GNA
