A team of music producers, led by a popular producer in Sunyani, Nana Boahen also known as “Stebo” is said to have stormed three radio stations in the Brong Ahafo Regional capital including Joy FM’s partner station SKY FM Sunday to seize equipment.
The task force accused the affected stations of piracy.
Amongst the items seized from Sky FM was the station’s main broadcast console. The station’s Morning Show Host Kuuku Abban told Joy News they are managing to broadcast only because they have improvised.
“They said they had the backing of the police, [that] they were legally equiped to take that action so they took away the console and the CPU of the studio away,” he narrated.
He said when management of the station contacted the police, they confirmed the music producers had the right to take the action if they had proof their works were being pirated.
The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Robert Ayalingo, justified the action saying the stations were actually involved in piracy and would be facing court for prosecution after investigations.
