Supporters of dismissed District Chief Executive for Sekyere East in the Ashanti Region have vowed to resist the appointment of a new DCE.
The supporters, mainly from Asokore Zongo, area are accusing President John Mills of succumbing to pressure from critics of the DCE in the Effiduase Zongo area. They are therefore calling for the immediate reinstatement of the sacked DCE.
The Sekyere East District Assembly has for some time now been embroiled in internal party wrangling which is adversely affecting the development of the area.
The dismissed DCE, Kwadwo Addai was among 13 DCE’s removed from office by President Mills last week.
Mr. Addai until his dismissal had had to contend with stiff opposition from a cross-section of his party supporters.
A few months after he assumed office last year, a group of irate youth from Effiduase Zongo stormed the assembly’s office and destroyed property worth millions of cedis.
The Ashanti Regional Minister and some Regional NDC Executives also narrowly escaped a mob attack by the same group during a visit to the constituency.
The announcement of the DCE’s dismissal was therefore met with mixed feelings. While the DCE’S critics from Effiduase Zongo were jubilating, his supporters from Asokore Zongo were disappointed.
Leader of the DCE’s supporters group, Mustapha Mohammed says the party is doomed if the president’s decision is not reversed. He stated “We are waiting for the president to come out with his final decision. We have petitioned him to reinstate Mr. Addai; he is good and we swear to advise ourselves if the president doesn’t rescind his decision.”
Meanwhile Mr. Kwadwo Addai has declined comment on the matter.
