A 16-year-Old nursing mother whose two breasts have been removed as a result of breast cancer has appealed to the public for assistance.
Ms Salome Adika, who delivered a baby boy a month ago, claimed that her family as well as the 17-year-old boy who impregnated her had neglected her.
Mrs Charity Mensah, the mother of Nyamekye Children's Home at Akwakwaa, said Ms Adika has nobody to take care for her.
Mrs Mensah said since the girl could not breast-feed the baby, the orphanage has adopted her temporally, but due to financial constraints the necessary attention could not be given to the nursing mother.
Mrs Mensah said the Home has about 83 orphans and is not in the position to add new responsibilities to its burden.
She appealed to the Agona East District Assembly, banks, local and foreign donors to come to the aid of the girl and the orphanage.
Mrs Monica Siaw, Agona West Municipal Officer of the Department of the Social Welfare, condemned parents who neglected their children when such disasters struck them.
She said the Department was making arrangement to look for an orphanage that could adopt the girl and her baby.
