Kofi Obeng, a labourer, was on Tuesday, arraigned before the Kade District Magistrates' Court, charged with being in possession of one female goat valued at GH¢ 50.00, suspected to have been stolen.
He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in police custody until January 21.
Detective Police Corporal, Isaac Owusu-Achiaw, prosecuting, told the court, presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu that, on January 08 at about 05.40 hours, a witness in the case, a policeman, at Kade had a tip-off that the accused and one Kofi Bawa, now at large, were offering for sale, a female goat, suspected to have been stolen at the Kade lorry station.
He said the witness proceeded to the station and met Obeng and his accomplice with the goat.
The prosecutor said the witness pretended to be interested in buying the goat and Obeng and his accomplice demanded GH¢ 20 for it.
The two were then asked by the witness to accompany them to his house for the money, which they obliged.
The witness then drove them in his vehicle to the charge office of the Kade police station.
The prosecutor said when Obeng and his accomplice realized that they were at the police station they suddenly opened the car's door and took to their heels.
He said the witness raised the alarm and succeeded in arresting Obeng whilst his accomplice managed to escaped.Source: GNA
