Britain’s international development agency, DFID has allayed fears aid to Ghana would be reduced because of budget cuts.
Last year, the British government announced plans to cut its budget by some 83 billion pounds by 2015. There have been worries this will greatly affect aid to countries such as Ghana.
But DFID has just announced the release of some 36 million pounds to support Ghana’s 2011 budget.
Acting Country Director for DFID, Daniel Graymore, told Joy News Ghana may even get more assistance in the form of grants.
He said regardless of the UK’s efforts to cut its budget deficit, its international support had been increased by about 37 percent.
The UK, he said, remained committed to helping developing countries to grow and to reduce poverty.
