A 21-year-old barber, Wilberforce Abeka, is in the grips of the police for allegedly stealing a Toyota Corolla car with registration number GE 1688-10 belonging to his employer.
Abeka was said to have stolen the car from his boss' residence at Mallam in Accra and took it to Bechem in the Brong Ahafo Region, where he was arrested.
Briefing the Times in Accra yesterday, the Odorkor District Commander, Superintendent Ebenezer Kweku Asare, said the suspect lives with his boss Pius Ebibitoken.
At dawn on January 9, the suspect allegedly locked up Ebibitoken in his room and bolted to Bechem with his car, laptop, wallet containing identity cards and shop keys.
The Commander said when Pius woke up later, he shouted for help and his neighbour broke his door open to rescue him.
Pius tried calling the suspect on his phone but it was switched off.
Later in the day the suspect reportedly sent him a text message on his phone to his boss informing him that he had left for business to pay some debtors and the car had been parked at a location at Budumburam in the Central Region.
Ebibitoken went to the location but did not find the car, and subsequently lodged a complaint with at the Odorkor police station.
Investigations later revealed that the car was in Brong Ahafo Region and on January 11, the Odorkor police contacted the Bechem Police and the vehicle was recovered at a park at Bechem.
"Surveillance was later mounted and the suspect was subsequently arrested from his hideout," he added
During interrogation Abeka admitted the offence.
The commander said he would soon be put before court after investigations.
