Members of Parliament have been told to quit their jobs if they think their salaries are that low.
Managing Editor of the Daily Dispatch Newspaper, Ben Ephson says if the argument of Members of Parliament that the demands of their office are huge then they should quit and have a quiet life.
He was reacting to comments made by the Member of Parliament for Ahafo Ano South, Balado Manu who has accused journalist of twisting the facts about the proposed GH¢7,000 salary for MPs.
According to Balado Manu, the figure is only a proposal that Parliament made to the government for consideration after government wrote to them to bring a proposal. Mr. Balado Manu told Asempa News that journalists have now turned the story as though that is what the MPs are demanding.
He says instead of educating the public on the work of MPs and what they deserve, journalists have rather subjected MPs to public insults, insisting that journalists are envious of them.
But Ben Ephson disagrees. He says journalists only inform the public on what goes on in the disbursement of funds from the public purse and that they will never renege on that responsibility.
The Daily Dispatch editor contends that the excuse that their constituents make demands on them is not justifiable because these demands are general to the Ghanaian society. Ben Ephson says if the MPs continue with their attacks on the media, they will be faced squarely.
