Mayor of Accra, Mr Alfred Vanderpuije has ordered a scrap dealer at Abbosey Okai to get down into a huge gutter and clear it of metal scraps.Mr. Vanderquije was on an inspection tour to assess sanitation in some communities in the national capital. He went into the homes of some residents living along drains, charging them to provide refuse bins and build toilet facilities in their houses.Mr Vanderpuije said the waste management companies will be instructed to register all residential facilities around drainages in the capital so they can be supplied with waste bins.“…our health inspectorate division will monitor them to make sure that they have stopped using the drains for waste disposal,” he said, warning that “any household that does not take advantage of that programme, then we will have no other choice than to prosecute and we will prosecute them until we correct that situation.”Source: Joy News/Ghana
