Members of Parliament have paid glowing tributes to the memory of Madam Theresa Amerley Tagoe, a former parliamentarian who died on November 25, last year.
The deceased will buried on Saturday, 29th January, 2011 but will be laid at the precincts of Parliament House on Friday for members to pay their last respects.
She was 68.
Theresa Tagoe, otherwise called "Iron Lady", was a former Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South and was instrumental in the New Patriotic Party’s women’s wing where she once served as women’s organizer.
She was also the Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister and Deputy Minister of Lands, Forestry & Mines under the erstwhile Kufuor administration.
She polled the largest votes cast for the NPP in the Greater Accra region in the December 7, 2004 general elections.
“She was not only a mother but a person who touched the lives of people in a positive way. She was not just a proud mom of two loving sons but a strong individual in her own right.
“The qualities that endeared Hon. Theresa Tagoe to so many people were what made her special to us as women’s caucus,” one of the MPs said on the floor of Parliament on Friday.
“Madam, it is with a heavy heart that I say these words for a lady who has made her own contributions to the welfare of this state and may the good Lord accept her graciously to the land of the righteous,” another said.
Parliament will close early on Friday, to afford the generality of MPs the opportunity to see the remains of their colleague for the last time before she is buried.
