Mr Emmanuel Obeng, a Pastor of the Way to Christ Ministries in Koforidua, was on Friday, granted bail, for allegedly assaulting two of his girl friends, who are members of his congregation.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mrs Eunice Annor, said Obeng was a pastor of the Way to Christ Ministries while the complainants, Ms Frederica Opeibea, 23 and Ms Patricia Bampo, 24, both of Abiriw, are members of the church.
She said the accused had proposed marriage simultaneously to the two ladies and had already gone to seek their hands in marriage from both families.
DSP Annor said both complainants upon realizing that they were rivals started confronting each other, sending signals to other church members that they were fighting over the accused.
She said according to the complainants, someone revealed to them that they were fighting over a married man whose wife was living at Asamankese.
"So when they realized that they were fooling themselves they decided to go and pick their belongings from the accused person's room" she said.
DSP Annor said when the complainants went for their belongings, the accused, in the process beat up Ms Frederica Opeibea with a belt and also twisted the arm of Ms Patricia Bampoe for allegedly taking his car key.
The case was therefore reported to the Eastern Regional Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service in Koforidua.
DSP Annor said the complainants had been sent to the hospital and were yet to present their medical report for further actions to be taken on the case.
