Officials at the National Identification Authority (NIA) say Ghanaians will within the next few months receive their National ID cards.
Executive Director of the Authority William Ahadzie told Joy News his outfit has resolved initial technical hitches it encountered and is ready to distribute the biometric cards to their owners.
The production of the cards went through torrid technological challenges with bouts of shortage of materials and clamour for unpaid allowances by personnel.
But the Executive Director maintains his outfit is ready with a pilot distribution exercise. Six regions have been targeted for the exercise.
According to Ahadzie, he is awaiting an official launching of the distribution process from the presidency to intensify national awareness about the programme.
“We are preparing for a formal launch of the card distribution by the presidency. So we are in communication with the office of the president to actually get a date that we can get the president to formally launch it,” he said.
He said his outfit has been in fruitful discussion with some corporate institutions in order to secure funding for the administration of the authority.
