The Police in the early hours of Tuesday arrested Ekrah Kwame, a 26-year-old Agona Nkwanta based taxi driver, in connection with the suspected theft of a quantity of high tension overhead electricity cables found in his Opel Astra taxi at Agona Junction. Mr. James Kofi Abraham, Western Regional Crime Officer, told the press at Sekondi that the cables valued at 5,000 Ghana Cedis, belong to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). The Regional Crime Officer said the suspect who was also known as Frank Kobbina, was arrested in the bush during a hot chase after abandoning the taxi at Agona Junction. He said two accomplices in the taxi with registration WR 814 V, also took to their heels and managed to escape. He said at about 01.30 hours, Policemen on patrol duty at Apimanim Junction saw the taxi driving at top speed from the Tarkwa area towards Agona Nkwanta and that when they signalled the driver to stop he ignored the order and drove off. Mr. Abraham said the Policemen became suspicious and boarded a taxi and gave the Opel Astra a hot chase. He said when the Opel Astra got to Agona Junction, the driver branched into a bush track. He said the driver and the accomplices run into the bush but the driver was arrested while the two accomplices escaped. When questioned by the press, Kwame said he was hired by one of the two people at large whose name he did not know, to convey some items for his brother from Tarkwa for 200 Ghana Cedis.
