An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday remanded into police custody a private security officer for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old pupil.
The court presided over by Mrs Georgina Mensah-Daste did not take the plea of Elvis Mercer 43, pending further investigations.
He would re-appear on February 22.
Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sarah Acquah said the complainant Ms Elizabeth Ankomah is mother of the victim, whilst the accused is her boyfriend and pay regular visits to Elizabeth.
ASP Acquah said during one of such visits, Elizabeth asked Mercer to buy her bread from a nearby store but Mercer refused.
She said when Elizabeth left the room to buy the bread, the victim was fast asleep on a bed but on her return saw Mercer lying beside the victim she became alarmed and turned over her daughter in her sleep only to realise that her underwear was wet.
ASP Acquah said when Elizabeth examined the wet underwear she found out that there were some thick liquid and questioned Mercer about what he had done but he (Mercer) denied having done anything with the victim.
She said Elizabeth lodged a complaint with the police and a hospital form was issued to the victim for medical treatment while the accused was arrested but denied having committed the offence.
