Nigerian legend Austin J.J Okocha is urging Ghana to end their 35-year wait for Africa Cup of Nations title next year in Gabon.
The former skipper of the Super Eagles believes the Black Stars have the pedigree and he is supporting Grant’s side to deliver in the absence of his beloved country Nigeria, who failed to qualify for the continental showpiece.
The team has been drawn in the same group as seven time champions Egypt, Uganda and Mali.
‘’I personally believe Ghana can win and I will support them because Nigeria won’t be part. And of course I will support my country if they were part’’ He said to JOY SPORTS.
‘’The competition presents an opportunity for the team to appease fans and salvage their images because they are not doing well in World Cup qualifiers so hopefully they win the trophy.’’
‘’Myself and every Ghanaian is expecting a lot from the Black Stars and hopefully they meet our expectations.’’
Ghana missed out narrowly on winning the competition in 2015 as Ivory Coast beat them on penalties. The West African country last won in 1982 beating host nation Libya in the finals.
But they have come close on three occasions where they were runners-up in 1992, 2010 and 2015.
