Djibril Cisse has officially retired from football to pursue a career in music and fashion.
The former Sunderland, Lazio and Liverpool forward said his career was over in October 2015 after needing replacement hip surgery, but made an attempt to return after training with Auxerre in France.
Despite his best intentions, Cisse has ended his 19-year career with nine goals and 41 appearances for France.
He won the Champions League with Liverpool, the Greek League with Panathinaikos and played in two World Cup finals.
“I have loved being a footballer. Up till now, the ball was my whole life,” said Cisse.
“I would have liked to have continued my career, which was interrupted in spite of me, but I have to admit today that football is finished.
“I’m going to give myself body and soul to my career as a DJ, a producer, and as a pundit, as well as develop my line of clothing.”
