A group of health workers are protesting what they suspect will be a reduction in salaries should they be migrated onto the Single Spine Salary Structure.The Health Service Workers Union comprising the hospital administrators, pharmacists and other allied health workers is questioning their job re-evaluation by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.They claim the re-evaluation which precedes the eventual migration onto the SSSS will leave them poorer.Speaking to Joy News, the General Secretary of the Union, Abu Kuntolo said the bench mark jobs shown to them by the Fair Wages and Salary Commission indicate a reduction in salaries.According to him, out of the 19 benchmark jobs shown to them, 70 per cent of workers in those jobs are worse off.The levels shown to then have had their salary level reduced.According to him, the re-evaluation by the FWSC is lower than the one conducted by a private consultant.He has therefore charged the officials at the FWSC to explain the reason for the reduction as well as the differences in the job re-evaluation conducted by the FWSC as well the private firm.He warned however that his outfit will not accept any salary range that will make them poorer.In a reaction, the CEO of the FWSC George Smith Graham, has called for calm.Even though he confirmed the results of the re-evaluation, which indicate that 70 per cent of workers in some bench marked jobs will receive lower than normal, he said his outfit is still in thorough discussions with stakeholders.He said after the discussions the final grading structure will be released before they are migrated.Mr Smith assured of a more credible and acceptable grading structure which will precede the migration of the Health Workers onto the SSSS.Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
