A Psychiatrist at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital Dr. Eugene Dordoye is calling on authorities to raise the legal drinking age of alcohol in this country to 25 years.
According to Dr. Dordoye before 25 years the brain is not fully matured to take bold decisions as far as alcohol is concerned.
As part of this year‘s International Day against Abuse of Drugs and Illicit Trafficking which falls on the 26th June, the Narcotic Control Board has selected 3 schools in Accra to visit the Accra Psychiatric hospital to have first hand information on the result of drug abuse, and its effects on the society.
Some of the selected schools are Accra Academy, St. Acquainas and St John’s Grammar Schools for the next three days to create more awareness before the actual date.
Speaking to Asempa News Dr. Dordoye noted that alcohol is the 3rd leading cause of death in the world and even kills more people than cancer and other related health issues.
