The Northern Region Police Command has intensified security at the Gbewa palace at Yendi, following the arrest of a man who sneaked in with four rounds of ammunition.
The middle-aged man named Musa Muniru was accosted by the Regent of Dagbon’s security detail after he stormed the Palace with the bullets on Thursday.
The Regent of Dagbon and his elders were in a meeting when the incident occurred, forcing residents to conclude that he was on a murder mission.
ASP Yussif Tanko
Northern Regional Police Commander, ASP Yussif Tanko who narrated the incident to Joy News said “he was searched and they found four rounds of ammunition on him.
"They asked him what he wanted and at a point, he said he was looking for somebody but at another point said he had lost his way.”
ASP Tanko said the suspect has been taken to court and has been remanded by a Tamale Circuit Court as investigations continue.
He was charged with being on the premises for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of ammunition without authority.
He added, however, that although the suspect was carrying ammunitions he was not armed, therefore he could not have harmed anyone.
“I am saying he wasn’t armed because an ammunition alone is incapable of causing harm to somebody.
“If he was carrying a gun together with the ammunition or a machete or a knife, then we would have concluded that he wanted to use to perpetrate a particular crime on the premises,” he added.
The suspect has been remanded and is expected to reappear in court on May 4, 2017
