A hairy tribute to Pirates of the Caribbean's Captain Davy Jones triumphed in a contest for weird beards.
Jonathan Rice's facial fuzz, resembling the octopus-shaped whiskers of Bill Nighy's character in the nautical movies, brushed off the competition in the freestyle category.
But it was a close shave as 200 competitors gathered for the second annual Beard Team USA National Beard and Moustache Championships in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Not only has Jonathan, 29, from Florida, saved on razor blades since stopping shaving three years ago, he also scooped £600 prize money.
Facial hair at the tournament was judged in five categories: moustache, partial beard, full beard groomed, full beard natural and freestyle.
A World Beard Championships also takes place annually, with Germany winning seven gold medals and the USA six at this year's event in Norway.
