The Police Hospital in Accra is appealing to philanthropic individuals and organizations to support its operations with drugs and other donations.The Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Chief Inspector Juliana Obeng tells Joy News hospital consumables such as drugs are needed to support the management of large numbers of patients trooping in to seek care.Facilities at the hospital have been overstretched since doctors in public hospitals embarked on a strike last week to demand an immediate migration onto the single spine salary structure.The hospital says until the situation in public hospitals normalizes, it expects to attend to more patients and emergencies. On Tuesday morning, the hospital deployed a second mobile theatre to support operations. The Out Patient Department however continued to overflow with patients.Chief Inspector Juliana Obeng said the Ministry of Health on Monday donated some quantities of drugs to the hospital while additional hands have been brought in to help manage the situation. She explained however that the facility could do with more assistance to enable it continue to deliver the best of service.“We are looking at, immediately and most importantly, hospital consumables like drugs, like dressings, like gloves, all the consumable that you can think of, and then we are looking at equipment as wellBetween late Monday night and Tuesday morning, as many as eight emergencies had been recorded, largely of bleeding expectant mothers. “Last night we recorded emergency cases of about five, this morning we have so far recorded three and still counting. The day is still young and we wouldn’t know what will happen. But any which ways as we’ve said in the past, our doors are opened 24/7…”A number of patients who spoke to Joy News expressed satisfaction with service delivery at the hospital, with some urging the government to expand the facility to accommodate more patients.
